Last night saw the crowning of Melanie Amaro as X Factor: USA‘s first winner, beating runner-up Josh Krajcik and Chris Rene in third place. A Southern songbird, hailing from the sunny Sunrise, Florida, Amaro plans to purchase a lifetime supply of chicken with her earnings (precisely $5 million). Of course that isn’t all she’ll buy, the gorgeous chanteuse is ready to give her mother a brand new home.
”I can’t live without it,” she says about the chicken. “It’s my favorite food. She hopes to bring a smile to her mother’s face by upgrading her living quarters. “The one we live in now sucks.” Amaro exclaims.
The 19-year old sang a stirring rendition of Beyonce’s “Listen” for the enthused crowd and panel of judges, but admits to flubbing the words mid-performance due to nerves,
“I couldn’t remember any of the words,” she says. “I was so overwhelmed; it was such a surprise to me.”
Serving as both producer and judge, Simon Cowell, acted as a mentor to Amaro and agrees with America’s decision–which tallied up to 40 million votes…
“She was a good contestant because she thought long and hard about how she would interpret songs,” says Cowell. “Every week we were discovering something new in her.”
Amaro will celebrate the feat with family and friends and then will decide on a choice out of four highly interested labels on Friday, according to Cowell.
“I can do ballads,” Amaro says, “but I want to show people there is more. I can do anything if I put my mind to it.”
